Alliance Boots is delighted to confirm that Boots Opticians and Boots UK have each been recognised in the Sunday Times Best Big Companies to work for. The 2011 listing, which was published in the Sunday Times yesterday, awarded Boots UK 19th position while Boots Opticians achieved the top spot – ranked in first position. This follows another recent accolade in Republic of Ireland with Boots Ireland being awarded eighth position in the Irish Independent’s Great Place to Work awards.
This is the second year that Boots Opticians and Boots UK have been recognised by the Sunday Times Best Companies listing, which was first established in 2001. Each year the prestigious listing, which is based on surveys taken by employees from participating organisations, recognises 25 large scale companies which employees score highly in each of the eight workplace factors measured by the Best Companies organisation: Leadership, My Manager, Personal Growth, Wellbeing, My Team, Giving Something Back, My Company, and Fair Deal.
Alex Gourlay, Chief Executive of the Health & Beauty Division for Alliance Boots, which includes Boots Opticians and Boots UK, comments: “We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised twice in this prestigious listing, and for Boots Opticians to have been ranked in first position is just outstanding. At Boots we truly believe in our businesses having the most empowered and engaged teams. Through this engagement we can be confident that our colleagues can deliver the products and customer care that makes the Boots brand one of the most trusted in the UK. Like thousands of my colleagues I am proud to say I work for Boots.”
Andy Ferguson, Managing Director of Boots Opticians added: “To be number one in the Sunday Times Best Big Companies list is a landmark achievement for Boots Opticians. Following the merger with Dollond & Atchison in 2009, our new Boots Opticians business has seen many changes and an ambitious integration process. To be able to continue to drive real positive engagement and passion from our teams is a testament to the fantastic organisation we have in place today.”
In May 2009, Alliance Boots completed the merger of Boots Opticians with Dollond & Aitchison, creating the second largest optical chain in the UK. This was achieved by De Rigo, a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of high quality eyewear, exchanging its ownership of Dollond & Aitchison for a 42% shareholding in the enlarged Boots Opticians business. The combined business was immediately established with a single management team and regional structure. Since the merger, good progress has been made with the integration of the two businesses. We have recently commenced the rebranding roll out, which will be largely completed during 2010/11.
