Alliance Boots today has published its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report 2012/13 for the year ended 31 March 2013.
As a business focused on healthcare, Alliance Boots is proud of its contribution to the wellbeing of the communities it serves. CSR is integral to these activities and this year’s report highlights the important role the Group’s charitable partnerships play in making a real difference to so many lives.
Through the Group’s pan-European partnership with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Charitable Trust, Alliance Boots has committed to raise €5 million by 2016 to establish a Biobank for the study and development of cancer treatments, through employee-led fundraising initiatives which have engaged colleagues, suppliers and customers.
In addition, many of the Group’s businesses have complementary national partnerships with local cancer charities. Boots UK and Macmillan Cancer Support continue to collaborate to find new ways to help people affected by cancer. Over 1,350 Boots pharmacists received bespoke training to enable them to talk to those customers with concerns about cancer.
On the environment, the report highlights the challenge of reducing carbon emissions, whilst meeting demands and maintaining high standards of customer service across its businesses. The Group keeps under review its product sustainability process and continues its focus on health and safety in the workplace. The report highlights the initiatives undertaken and the results achieved in 2012/13.
Ornella Barra, Chairman of the social responsibilities committee for Alliance Boots, said: “Across Alliance Boots we recognise that working in partnership with stakeholders enables us to make a bigger positive impact and that together we can achieve more. This is in line with the clear vision we have for the future of our Group and the key role that CSR has to play.”
With a view to ensuring the constantly high standards of the Group’s CSR reporting, once again this year’s CSR data is independently assured by KPMG and has been compiled using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines and covers the substantive issues relevant to the Group.
The online report makes the most of the internet’s flexibility, allowing readers to further explore case studies, performance data, Group policies and to learn more about Alliance Boots partnerships.
