September 30, 2011

Alliance Boots today publishes its Corporate Social Responsibility Report 2010/11 for the year ended 31 March 2011.

Alliance Boots ambition is to build a world-leading sustainable group, making healthcare even more accessible to the communities it serves. The Corporate Social Responsibility Report outlines the excellent progress Alliance Boots has made over 2010/11 towards achieving this goal, as well as enhancing the Group’s credentials within the field of sustainability.

During the year, the efforts of the Boots and Alliance Healthcare teams have been recognised through several well-deserved awards and accreditations, underlining Alliance Boots dedication to good corporate citizenship. In addition, the Group secured platinum status in the Business in the Community “Companies that Count” survey and was highly positioned in a recent global study conducted by the Reputation Institute. This is the first year that Alliance Boots Corporate Social Responsibility Report has included an independent assurance report issued by KPMG.

The Group’s corporate social responsibility framework of priorities covers four main areas: our community; our environment; our marketplace; and our workplace. Partnerships are key to the way Alliance Boots operates across each of these areas. For example, while marking the publication of the Corporate Social Responsibility Report, today is also the official launch of the Group’s new pan-European partnership with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Charitable Trust.

The first series of ongoing fundraising activities to support this partnership will be held today across Alliance Boots businesses. Money raised will go towards the total fundraising target of €5million over the next five years which will support the creation and funding of a “biobank” for colorectal cancer and later a platform for blood sampling to enable genetic profiling.

Ornella Barra, Chairman of the social responsibilities committee for Alliance Boots, comments: “Corporate social responsibility is integral to all the businesses across Alliance Boots. It is inherent in our values and forms a natural part of our culture. To realise our long-term vision of sustainability, we understand the importance of fully engaging the collaboration and support of our many stakeholders – both internal and external. Strong partnerships, such as that with the EORTC Charitable Trust which directly complements our ongoing partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support in the UK, are forged in pursuit of sustainability and are the true foundation and measure of our CSR success.”
