Governance
We are committed to transparent reporting when it comes to our ESG activities and sharing progress toward our goals.
To protect the safety, privacy and well-being of our stakeholders, we prioritize risk management and adherence to ESG principles. We continue to enhance the transparency and credibility of our ESG disclosures through widely accepted sustainability reporting standards that provide confidence in our ongoing corporate responsibility efforts and progress.
Our board of directors is supportive of our efforts to strengthen our governance practices and procedures. They are actively engaged in oversight of the Company’s strategic, operational and financial matters, including risks facing the Company. The Nominating and Governance Committee and Audit Committee are actively engaged in reviewing policies and activities regarding ESG reporting and reviewing key risks identified through the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management program, which can include risks related to climate change, sustainability and other ESG-related matters. The WBA ESG Committee provides further oversight and governance of our ESG program. For more information on our governance management, please refer to our corporate ESG policy statements and 2022 Annual Report.
At WBA, we are fully committed to ensuring the health and safety of all stakeholders, including employees, customers, patients, contractors and suppliers across all of our business segments. We understand that safety is a top priority, and that's why we have implemented programs such as the Safety Focused Stockroom at Walgreens and developed a digital management system within Boots UK to keep our employees safe. When it comes to patient safety, we go above and beyond to ensure the safe dispensing of medications in our pharmacies, and we're always on the lookout for new ways to minimize risks and improve our dispensing and pharmacy services and advice. Our Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Committee and HSE policy guide our efforts to create a safe environment, and we're proud to have a strong track record of compliance with laws and regulations, as well as our own high safety and quality standards.
To protect sensitive information and ensure compliance, WBA prioritizes global information security practices by setting guidelines for our people, processes, and systems. We create a culture of security by providing training on security and privacy to new employees, regularly engaging with third-party organizations to assess security controls, and adhering to global information security policies. We are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of security and privacy for all stakeholders.
We are committed to protecting patient and customer privacy and data by adhering to leading data protection standards. We are transparent with our customers about how we use their data and have a system in place to review, investigate and response to any privacy concerns that may arise. Applicable members of our team, including those in pharmacy, retail, support office, and applicable U.S. contractors, are required to participate in annual privacy training to ensure compliance with our strict privacy policies.
