WBA statement on Derek Chauvin trial verdict

It’s been almost a year since George Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis police officer, and earlier today, that officer was held accountable. A jury reached a guilty verdict.

We are a nation of laws, and these laws and those who enforce them must protect us – all of us, at all times.

This is a moment to pause for reflection… to once again express our sympathy to the family of George Floyd and to keep them in our thoughts… to remember all those who have been unjustly harmed by an imperfect system and institutionalized racism… to pledge to do everything within our power to ensure that long-overdue, much-needed reforms are enacted to prevent future injustices… and to further understand the perspectives and deep emotions of many of our friends, team members, patients, and customers and offer support.

Even with a verdict now handed down, we must never forget what this past year has taught us, and we must always keep alive the memory of George Floyd, and the countless victims who have suffered similar fates.

The Centers for Disease Control has declared racism a public health threat, and for many African Americans and others in communities of color, it has definitely been life threatening. Whether it’s from direct violence, or health disparities, racism is a poison that needs to be confronted and eradicated. That’s why we’re committed to being a part of the solution, including our vaccine equity work.

At WBA, we believe that each person has equal worth and that our diversity makes our company stronger, and we will remain deeply devoted to more fairness, more respect, more righteousness, and more lives realizing their full potential. Our purpose is to help people across the world lead healthier and happier lives, and whenever and wherever possible, we are here to help heal.
